Expanding surgical expertise with the da Vinci Xi HD robotic system
Urologist Kendall Feia, MD has performed hundreds of robot-assisted minimally invasive surgeries, and with the latest generation da Vinci Xi HD Surgical System in place at HCMC, he, along with other surgeons, will be able to offer the advantages of this technology for HCMC patients.
The advanced, four-arm robotic system allows surgeons to perform complex, minimally invasive procedures that often result in smaller incisions, enhanced recovery times, less post-operative pain, and less time spent in the hospital.
The da Vinci Xi Surgery System integrates robotic technology to virtually extend the surgeon’s eyes and hands. While seated at a console in the operating room just a few feet away from the patient, the surgeon views a 3-D high-definition image of the surgical area and the intuitive system mimics the surgeon’s hand movements in real-time while he or she operates. The surgeon is in complete control throughout the procedure.
“The da Vinci Xi provides a higher degree of precision, greater 3D visualization of the surgical field, enhanced maneuverability of surgical instruments, and the ability to access difficult-to-reach anatomy within the body,” notes Dr. Feia.
