National EMS Week: Ready today. Preparing for tomorrow.

May 17-23 is National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week, which honors the dedication of emergency medical professionals who respond to and take care of our citizens throughout the community.

Hennepin Emergency Medical Services has been serving our community for more than 125 years. Though they may look a little different this year with the addition of personal protective equipment, their mission remains the same: to provide outstanding medical services in times of crisis to the residents and visitors of Hennepin County.

The theme of this year’s observance is “Ready today. Preparing for tomorrow.” and is particularly meaningful as EMS professionals support the health and well-being of our communities while navigating the COVID-19 pandemic. Preparing for tomorrow is more than getting ready for the next call: tomorrow may bring a new epidemic, new technologies, or new expectations in an evolving healthcare system, and our EMS personnel must quickly adapt to those changes. Hennepin EMS takes pride in always being ready. Ready to go at any time to face whatever situation awaits them on the scene and help those who need it most while adapting to change to provide exceptional care without exception.

This week, we invite you to take a moment to salute our EMS professionals for being ready every day and constantly preparing for tomorrow. Thank you to the paramedics responding in the ambulance, the emergency medical dispatchers providing life-saving instructions over the phone, the community paramedics caring for patients where they are, the emergency medical response team at our public events, the educators and instructors sharing their knowledge with new EMS professionals, and the support staff, administrative professionals, mechanics, stock/supply clerks, and all those who are a part of Team Hennepin EMS!

We’re grateful to have Hennepin EMS planning, preparing, and tirelessly supporting our community. We are humbled by their compassion to serve those in their greatest time of need, and proud to have you as part of our Hennepin Healthcare team.
