Nurses Week 2020: Honoring the light of our nurses and frontline staff as we find our “flo”

200 years ago, Florence Nightingale – the founder of modern nursing – was born. Florence became known as the “Lady with the Lamp” as she rounded on wounded soldiers at night during the Crimean War. 200 years later during Nurses Week 2020, we find ourselves amid a pandemic.

In the spirit of Florence, May 6 through May 12 we honored the light and wisdom of nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic and throughout history. Although May 12 is now past us, we honor nurses every day. Our nurses are finding their own version of “Flo” as they continue to provide exceptional care without exception to our patients every single day.

We recognized the flame that burns bright in every one of our Hennepin Healthcare nurses by watching them read a modern Florence Nightingale pledge in honor of Nurses Week.

There was also lamp lighting ceremony kicking off our Nurses Week celebration with Hennepin Healthcare Chief Nursing Officer Lori Brown and a live stream of our LanternCam (streaming 24/7 through Nurses Week, day and night).
