A Vision to Diversify the Medical Field

The lack of diversity in the medical profession leads to distrust in the field, increasing health and healthcare disparities, and poorer health outcomes. The Talent Garden addresses this issue through a comprehensive initiative designed to ignite young people of color’s interest in top healthcare careers. Youth of color from underserved and underrepresented communities will participate in Youth Summits, where they will be exposed to various healthcare careers and gain hands-on experience. High school students will be matched with mentors to prepare for a career in medicine. And high school juniors and seniors will participate in paid healthcare internships at Hennepin Healthcare to gain practical experience and explore healthcare career options.

Philanthropic Goal: $260,000

Help us spark interest in the medical field for the future generation of healthcare professionals. Your generous support will allow students to experience real-life medical simulations, learn about the career path to medical and dental schools, and discover helpful tools for goal setting and time management, all while interacting with medical professionals of color.

How Your Donation Helps

  • $5,000 will support one intern for a 12-week part-time, paid internship. We need support for 20 paid internships this summer.
  • $12,000 will support one Youth Summit event where students will come and learn about the medical field and become inspired to pursue careers in medicine. We need support for three Youth Summits this year.
